Ambitious Solen Queen Quest

An Ambitious Solen QueenThe first challenge on this quest is finding the Ambitious Queen. Once you find her you can initiate conversation using the context menu. The Ambitious Queen will ask you to do a few tasks that will help her advance in the Solen hierarchy and eventually become the Matriarch of the Solen. The tasks are relatively simple; the first is to kill 5 of the rivaling Solen Queens, who are also in line to become Matriarch. The second is to collect 50 Zoogi Fungus, so she can practice transforming it to Powder of Translocation, which is a skill that only the Matriarch masters completely.

Once you have killed the five Solen Queens, return to the Ambitious Queen and talk to her. She will be pretty happy with you and will request you to bring her 50 zoogi fungi after which you will get your reward. Assuming you have done your looting or planned ahead and brought some, you can drop the 50 zoogi fungus on her and she will give you some gold, some Translocation Powder and a Bag of Sending.

The Collector Quest

At the Haven Docks (and Ocllo) in the Albatross Bar & Grill dwells Elwood McCarrin, collector extraordinaire. He seems a bit scatterbrained... "Elwood greets you warmly like and old friend he is not quite sure he ever had....'You always were one of my best suppliers. Or maybe not.'" Assuming you were, he asks you to obtain several items for him.

The first thing Elwood wants you to find is six Rainbow Pearls, which luckily can be found in Haven Lake right outside bar. To get the pearls from the lake you will need a fishing pole, which if you don't have one can be bought from one of the many fishermen on the dock. With a fishing pole in your hand you just go to the lake and start fishing, eventually you will have caught six shellfish that contained rainbow pearls. You don't need fishing skill to do this, just fish until your quest log pops up saying you have enough of the things. Sadly, you can't see the rainbow pearls. You just have to imagine how lovely they must be!Title

Return to Elwood with the pearls and he will send you out for the next item, a portrait painted by the respected painter Alberta Giacco. Alberta can be found at the Colored Canvas in Vesper and will gladly paint your portrait if you ask her. All you will have to do is to sit still on a stool in front of her for a few minutes. Once she is done she will send you back to Elwood with word that the portrait will follow when it is done.

The third thing Elwood sends you to get is a sheet of music autographed by the renowned minstrel Gabriel Piete, who when he isn't on tour can be found in the Conservatory of Music in Britain. He really hates being bothered by the public, but agrees to do the autograph if you bring him some sheet music from one of his songs to sign. He says they will have some in theatres where he has recently performed. The theatres are in Britain, Jhelom and Nujel'm. Only one of the theaters he mentions will have the required sheet music, which can be bought from the theatres local impresario for 10 gold pieces. Once you have your sheet music, Gabriel most kindly signs it and you can return to Elwood, who is brimming with enthusiasm and praise, in his off beat way.

For your last task, Elwood would like you to get him some miniature monster carvings for his collection. These are to be done by Tomas O'Neerlam who can be found in the Tinkers Guild in Trinsic. The Tinkers Guild is the large building just north of the Mage shop. Tomas explains that he needs pictures to make his carvings from, so you must go get those for him using the magic-monster-image-capturing paints he lends you for the job. You get a list of 4 monsters to get images of. Fortunately, the picture taking process is very quick because getting some of the images entails going into some pretty dangerous spots. The images will automatically be created when you use the magical paints and target the proper creature.

Tomas O'Neerlam
The four creatures he will send you to get images of can be any combination of these creatures.
  Betrayer   Juka Mage   Pixie
  Bog Thing   Juka Warrior   Plague Beast
  Bogling   Lich   Sand Vortex
  Gazer   Meer Mage   Scorpion
  Giant Beetle   Meer Warrior   Stone Gargoyle
  Giant Black Widow   Mongbat   Swamp Dragon
  Juggernaut   Mummy   Wisp
Once you get all four images, go back to see Tomas, who will take his paints back and promise to get the sculptures to Elwood.

Return to Elwood for your reward. He gives you a bag containing some gold, a piece of obsidian and a magic shield, weapon or piece of armor. When you have more than one piece of obsidian you can combine them by double clicking one and targeting the other.

It takes 10 pieces to make a sculpture. These will be random whimsically-named busts which are rumored to even occasionally take the name of their owners!

The Solen Matriarch Quest

The Solen Matriarch quest is started by talking to the Solen Matriarch, which can be found in the center of the Solen Hive. However the Matriarch is not too willing to talk to those she doesn't know, so if you do not hold her friendship you will have to offer her a small gift in order to talk to her. Luckily the Matriarch has a weak spot for plant seeds and for just a single one she will offer you a chance to gain the friendship of the entire Solen Hive. (Note: This is a very good quest to do if you are planning on being in the ant caves studying nests or taming beetles or killing ant lions. Any of these activities are made much simpler if you are not being constantly attacked by ants.)

She will then explain to you that she could use your help with a couple of things. She is very concerned about the Solen Infiltrators who have been showing up in the lands (black ants in Trammel and red ants in Felucca). She would like you to kill seven of them. She also needs some fresh water for the supply tanks in the hive, but you can do that after you kill the Solen Infiltrators. The best place to find Solen Infiltrators is in the convoluted passageways leading to Wind. Once there, it won't take you long to get your limit.

While you are killing the infiltrators you might as well collect some Zoogi Fungus from the corpses, so you have something for the Matriarch to convert when you're done.

After you have killed the seven infiltrators, return to the Solen Matriarch and she will tell you to bring 8 gallons of fresh water to add to the nearby vats. Pitchers of water can be bought from most Innkeepers if you don't know anywhere else to get them.

When you return to the Solen Matriarch, she will be delighted with you and offer to convert 200 of your Zoogi fungus into 100 Translocation Powders (which is used to charge up the Bracelets of Binding, the Bags of Sending and SOS books). So be sure and bring some along or go get some if you don't have enough.

Now you are an ally of this hive and ants of this color will no longer attack you. You can destroy your friendship with them by attacking them.

The Study of the Solen Hive

The Study of the Solen Hive quest is started by talking to a Naturalist in the Britain Public Library, which is located just north of the gates to Lord British's Castle in Britain. The Naturalist will tell you of his long time fascination with Terathans and of the newly emerged Solen and his burning desire to learn more about them. But alas, he is no adventurer and so would like to enlist your help in studying their egg nests. The task he wants you to do is to go and study the four Egg Nests that can be found deep underground in the Hive of the Solen and then return to him and report all that you have seen.

One of HiveThis quest is made much simpler if you have already done the Solen Matriarch quest and made friends with the ants. Then you can run through the caves without being swarmed and will only be attacked by ant lions and beetles, which won't present a problem if you keep moving.

The first thing you will need to do is find one of the four permanent entrances to the Hive. The easiest one to find is the one just west of the main gates of Trinsic (102° 28' S, 25° 52' E), but the other 3 can be found south of Minoc (75° 40' N, 90° 21' E), south of Yew (15° 7' N, 41° 41' W) and just south of the road east of the Chaos Shrine (71° 6' N, 28° 11' E). Or much easier way - use runebook in Moonglow Rune Library.

Once inside the Hive you will need to find one of the four Egg Nests and stand near it to begin studying it. You will get a message that you have begun studying the nest. Wait a bit and you will "start taking notes on a scrap of parchment"... and after that you will be informed that you are finished studying the nest and you can head to your next one. If you are not an ant friend you can study them fine while hidden. If you move away from the nest while in the middle of studying it, you will have to start the study process from the beginning. So try to stand still... i.e. don't get attacked.

Green ThornThe extra work involves finding a 'secret' fifth nest where the Solen keep their special eggs. This secret nest can be accessed from any sandy area, like a desert or beach, but only by planting a special Green Thorn there. These Green Thorns can be harvested off certain bright green plants that most gardeners should know how to grow. When the Green Thorn is planted in a sandy area it will produce a small hole in the sand that will provide access to the secret nest. The hole will collapse rather quickly though, so you will have to be fast and jump into it immediately when it appears. Once inside you should find the nest and study it the same way as the previous four.

04Now when you return to the Naturalist he will applaud your good work and give you a small reward consisting of a single mutated plant seed, grown by a botanist friend of his. If you only studied the four normal nests the seed will be either Aqua, Magenta of Pink colored, but if you visited the fifth nest too, the seed will be a special Fire Red colored seed.

The Witch's Apprentice

Grizelda the Hag lives in a ruined house just off the road, south of the lich area between Yew and the Brit/Skara Brae junction.

Grizelda's spotShe isn't the most pleasant of souls and will threaten to "split ye open and swallow yer guts" or "turn ye into a pile of goo" when you speak to her. But don't be intimidated, she is all talk. She will tell you that her apprentice has vanished while on a search for various ingredients and was last seen traveling towards the Yew Cemetery. Seems like this is a common fate of her apprentices.

Corpse of apprenticeTo find the apprentice you will have to go to the road west of the ruins and follow it north towards the cemetery in Yew. Somewhere along the road you will come across the body of the apprentice and notice the evil imp, Zeefzorpul, stealing a piece of paper from the corpse. Examine the corpse to find out that it is the missing apprentice and then return to Grizelda with the bad news.

Understandably upset, Grizelda sends you on a hunt for Zeefzorpul. She doesn't know where he might be, but suspects if you rough up some of his impish buddies, they will divulge his hiding place.

You should then go find some Imps and start killing them, any Imps will do. After you've killed a few, one of them will talk to you and give you a map leading to Zeefzorpul's hideout and a magic flute with the power to summon him. Look at the map and see if you can figure out which location it points to, if you can't then try looking at this page.

Once you have found him return to Grizelda with the invisible list of ingredients he stole from the apprentice. She will tell you that if you wish to get your reward, you are going to have to collect the ingredients for her. You will get varying numbers of three different items. They are not too life threatening to collect overall, but sometimes the critters are hard to find. You just have to kill the sources of your ingredients, not cut them open. You will see a message that you have gathered whatever you were after.

The recipe will list three random items from the following list that you will need to find:
Captain Blackheart's Whiskey* 5 Sheep Liver (kill 5 Sheep)
* 5 Rabbit's Foot (kill 5 Rabbits or Jack Rabbits)
* 5 Mongbat Wing (kill 5 Mongbats)
* 5 Chicken Gizzard (kill 5 Chickens)
* 5 Rat Tail (kill 5 Rats or Sewer Rats)
* 5 Frog's Leg (kill 5 Bullfrogs)
* 5 Deer Heart (kill 5 Hinds or Great Harts)
* 5 Lizard Tongue (kill 5 Lizardmen or Lava Lizards)
* 5 Slime Ooze (kill 5 Slimes)
* 5 Spirit Essence (kill 5 Ghouls, Shades, Spectres, Wraiths or Shadow Fiends)
* 5 Bones Buried In Hallowed Ground (use a shovel on a grave)
* Swamp Water (use a pitcher on a swamp)
* Freshly Cut Red Mushrooms (use a dagger or other sharp item on a red mushroom)
* Star Chart (use a spyglass at night)
* Captain Blackheart's Whiskey (Go to Buccaneer's Den to the to The Pirate's Plunder Tavern wearing a tricorn hat so you look like an authentic pirate and keep drinking pitchers of booze until you impress Captain Blackheart enough for him to give you his whiskey. You end up drinking quite a bit and will be saying *hic* for a long time.)

Once you have found all three items and brought them back to Grizelda, she will reward you with a bag containing about 2000 Gold Pieces, 30 of each Reagent, A Magic Item, A Treasure Map, A Cauldron and A Bottle of Magic Moonfire Brew. If one of the ingredients on the recipe was Captain Blackheart's Whiskey, she will also give you a bottle of Grizelda's Extra Strength Hangover Cure.

You also gain in Sacrifice.
