Sailing
Did you know that Seacharts worked?
While perusing the forums and wiki and site trying to compiles years
of information together I came across some pretty cool stuff. One of the
things I found was totally by accident while looking for something else
lol.
While looking for Player Vendor information on Stratics I came across
their site page for Player Commands and found a whole lot of them. The
ones that really intrigued me though were the boat commands which are
really the same here plus other words which probably work here too.
Anyways... I saw all kinds of things to do with the Navigation with maps.
Now I've never seen this system work as when I used to play years ago
none of the emulators (the type of servers we play on that run the
Player run shards instead of the Pay servers in OSI) could get them to
work. Well guess what? They do now!
- Just have your local Cartographer ... meaning yourself or a friend
you know that can do it ... create you a seachart or even a few for
different locations in the world.
- Next hit the Plot Course words at the top of the opened (double
clicked) Seachart and start clicking a path on the map that you want
the boat to follow.
- Once you have your course plotted drop the Seachart on your boats
Tillerman. He sees it, records it to memory since they are so good at
their job, and gives it back to you so you can follow course as you
move.
- Use the following commands to tell your Tillerman what to do:
- Continue -- Resume plotted course after stopped.
- Furl sail, Stop -- Stops current ship movement.
- Goto (#) -- Sail directly to pin # on map, then continue
on remainder of plotted course.
- Nav -- Asks tillerman which pin # you are heading to on
map.
- Single (#) -- Sail directly to pin # on map, then stop.
- Start -- Start along the charted course and continue
until finished or "stop"ped.
And here are commands for navigation by hand:
- (Direction) -- Move ship in desired direction. You
can use these directions: forward left, forward right, backward left,
backward right, back left, back right, backwards, backward, back.
- Drift left, Left -- Moves ship to the left.
- Drift right, Right -- Moves ship to the right.
- Drop anchor, Raise anchor -- Toggles ship movement
on or off.
- Furl sail, Stop -- Stops current ship movement.
- One (direction), (direction) one --
Moves ship one tile in desired direction and stops.
- Slow (direction) -- Moves ship slowly in desired
direction.
- Turn around, Come about -- Turns ship around and
proceeds.
- Turn left, Port -- Rotate ship left. Changes the
orientation of the ship.
- Turn right, Starboard -- Rotate ship right. Changes
the orientation of the ship.
- Unfurl sail, Forward -- Moves ship forward.
But it's much easier to use Mystical Sextant :)
Have fun checking this out, I did for a bit last night and I think
this will be a great tool for sailing to different locations for SOS's
when I'm not feeling to lazy to sail and decide to use the Tranport
charges hehe.

Note:
There are 2 commands I use to get somewhere faster. Forwardleft and
forwardright. Lets say your boat is pointing north. When you say forward,
the boat goes at a 45 degree angle in relation to your screen. When you
say forwardleft, the boat goes straight up the screen. Forwardright goes
straight right across the screen. These command in essence moves you
twice as fast. Let's say you go forward(north) 5 tiles, stop, turn left
and go 5 tiles forward(west). That is 10 tiles movement. You can get to
the same spot with forwardleft and move 5 tiles. Hope this makes sense.

Maintaining your ship
Even if left safely at anchor, a ship could well vanish without a trace if its master is gone for too long. This is very unlikely to happen in a crowded port, but much more common on wild stretches of coastline. Boats can decay when not used. To maintain your boat double-click either gangplank. Any player with any copy of the ship's key can use this method to refresh the boat.
To see the state of your boat, move cursor over a Tillerman.
Dry Docking
When you wish to leave your ship, you are encouraged to take it with you. If you have the key to the ship, close any open planks and double-click on the Tillerman while you are on shore. The deck of your ship must be clear of all items and players. You will be asked if you wish to dry dock the ship. If you dry dock your ship, you will receive a miniature boat in your backpack. You may use this miniature boat as you would a boat deed and place the boat in the water when you are ready to use it again.
